Liberal Research Bureau:北京冬奥会声明 // Statement on Beijing Winter Olympics

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, confirmed that Canada will not be sending diplomatic representatives to Beijing for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in line with our closest allies.

We have been in close contact with our allies in the last few months on this critical issue and we remain deeply disturbed by the troubling reports of human rights violations in China, which led to this decision.

Canada will continue to work to strengthen the people-to-people ties among the nations, and endeavour to uphold the value of multiculturalism from coast to coast to coast.

Lastly, we acknowledge, respect, and appreciate our athletes who are working extremely hard in preparation for the Olympics games. We will continue to support and cheer for all of them, including our Chinese-Canadian athletes.
