Ottawa, ON – After nine years, Justin Trudeau has lost control at the worst possible time. Yesterday, Canadians discovered that this NDP-Liberal government had blown through their own guardrails with a $62 billion deficit. While unemployment is expected to exceed 7 percent by the end of next calendar year.
Not only have Canadians lost faith in this Prime Minister, but so too have his cabinet ministers. Yesterday, Trudeau’s Finance Minister resigned mere hours before she was supposed to deliver the Fall Economic Statement and his Housing Minister has resigned in the middle of a housing crisis.
This chaos cannot continue, especially as Canadians stare down the barrel of 25 percent tariffs from the United States that would devastate our already failing economy. President-Elect Trump will enter office in just forty days, and yet this NDP-Liberal government has still not presented a Canada First plan to save Canadian jobs and secure our border.
For this reason, Common Sense Conservatives have launched a motion, calling for the International Trade Committee to hold hearings beginning the week of January 6 through to January 20, when 25 percent tariffs may be imposed if a deal isn’t secured. This House of Commons order will force testimony from key ministers, border enforcement, the RCMP, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States, and top officials responsible for securing a Canada First deal with the United States.
This is especially important as Justin Trudeau now no longer has a chair of the Canada-US committee. Given the state of chaos the Trudeau Government is in, members of Parliament from all parties cannot leave it to this weak Prime Minister and his collapsing government to deal with President Trump.
The NDP and the Bloc cannot sit back and watch as Justin Trudeau allows American tariffs to force our economy off a cliff. They must join with Common Sense Conservatives in holding this Liberal Government to account in order to protect Canadians from devastating tariffs that will gut the economy and kill jobs.
