Ottawa, ON – After nine years, Justin Trudeau has committed economic vandalism. Today, Statistics Canada released their report on payroll employment, showing a 21,000 decrease in the number of people receiving pay and benefits from their employer.
On top of this, on a year-over-year basis, payroll employment only increased by 125,800, while Canada’s working-age population increased by 1.18 million. This means that more people are searching for fewer jobs.
This is evident in the falling number of job vacancies, which decreased by 15,000 in October. In fact, the number of job vacancies in October has declined by nearly half since May 2022. And compared to October 2023, the number of job vacancies had collapsed by 24 percent.
As Statistics Canada wrote in their report, since last October “the unemployment-to-job vacancy ratio rose from 1.8 to 2.8, reflecting the cooling of labour market conditions over this period.”
The Liberal Government has devastated Canada’s economy. Unemployment has reached its highest level since 2017, excluding the pandemic, standing at 6.8 percent. And Justin Trudeau’s own Fall Economic Statement has predicted that unemployment will climb above 7 percent, while his government posts a $62 billion deficit.
Canadians deserve better. Only Common Sense Conservatives will bring home powerful paycheques for all Canadians.
