Conservatives To Move Motion Of Non-Confidence in Liberal Government

December 27, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – After 9 years, Justin Trudeau has completely lost control and is desperately clinging to power. On January 7, the powerful Public Accounts Committee will be recalled to vote on moving a motion of non-confidence in the Liberal Government to the House of Commons as soon as it returns following the winter break.

Conservatives, Bloc Quebecois and the NDP, representing a majority of MPs, have all announced they will vote non-confidence in the Liberal Government in order to force an election. Many of Trudeau’s own MPs, including his former deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, no longer have confidence in him.

The foundational principle of our constitutional order is responsible government. This means that the Government must continually maintain the confidence of Parliament to continue. Canadians need an election now, and deserve a strong Conservative Government led by a Prime Minister with the brains and backbone to clean up Justin Trudeau’s mess and lead Canada through the challenges ahead.

Conservatives will move a simple and straightforward motion, stating that the Committee report to the House the following recommendation: That the House has no confidence in the Prime Minister and the Government. The committee’s non-confidence motion is the start of a two-step process. Once the committee passes the motion, it will be referred to the House of Commons for all MPs to vote on as early as Thursday, January 30. If adopted by the House, it will be a clear expression of non-confidence in Justin Trudeau’s Government.

The NDP Leader announced in September that he “ripped up” his coalition deal with the Liberal Government and then proceeded to vote confidence in Justin Trudeau eight times during the fall session. Now, on the Friday before Christmas, and while Parliament is on a 6-week break, Jagmeet Singh announced that he will vote non-confidence in the Liberal Government, writing publicly that “the Liberals don’t deserve another chance. That’s why the NDP will vote to bring this government down.” Conservatives are now presenting the NDP with this first opportunity to bring down the Liberal Government and force an election.

Enough is enough. It’s time for the NDP leader to live up to his own words, put his country before his pension and vote non-confidence in the Liberal Government so Canadians can finally have the election they desperately need.
