L’Orignal, ON — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced today that as Prime Minister he will axe the entire carbon tax law, including the federal backstop that requires the provinces to impose an industrial carbon tax. This will take the tax off Canadian steel, aluminum, natural gas, food production, concrete and all other major industries, lowering prices and bringing home powerful paycheques for Canadians.

Poilievre will axe the entire carbon tax as part of his Bring It Home Tax Cut on work, investment, energy and homebuilding. Not only will this lower costs for working Canadians, it will also boost our economy, allowing our companies to become competitive again with the United States.

Provinces will continue to have the freedom to address the issue as they like, but will have the freedom to get rid of these industrial taxes that the federal government has forced them to impose.

Poilievre also promised to use technology, not taxes, to protect our environment by expanding eligibility of the Clean Technology and Clean Manufacturing Investment Tax Credits (ITCs). Heavy industries who make products with lower emissions than the world average will be rewarded, bringing jobs and production home and bringing global emissions down.

“With lower taxes, we will unleash a massive boom and bring home paycheques and production from the U.S. and other countries,” said Poilievre. “Our factories, mines and mills will be buzzing with the work of welders, carpenters, pipefitters, heavy machinery operators and assembly line workers.”

The full carbon tax law – which lets the Carney-Trudeau Liberals keep the tax and raise the tax – is still in place today, even after Mark Carney tried to hide the tax just a few days ago. That law would still raise the tax every year until it hits 61 cents a litre in 2030. Poilievre said “Carney will hide the tax for the next two months until after the election is over, when he will bring back a bigger ‘shadow carbon tax’ without any rebate. All Carney has to do is flip a switch to turn the tax back on gas, heat, farmers and everyone else.”

Carney admitted his shadow carbon tax will hit Canadian businesses hard – making it even more expensive than Trudeau’s industrial carbon tax, and making life even more expensive for all Canadians.

The combination of Trump’s tariffs and Carney’s carbon tax would drive steel, aluminum and many other heavy industries out of Canada altogether. Workers would lose wages and families will pay more. Carney even promised that “our companies, our largest companies, are going to pay.”

Mark Carney has a long history of doing exactly what Donald Trump wants. Just six days after Trump first threatened to attack Canada’s economy with tariffs, Carney moved his company and Canadian jobs to New York City, and then lied by saying he had nothing to do with it.

“The Liberal Carbon Tax will have Trump grinning from ear to ear. But I won’t let him do it,” said Poilievre. “We will take the carbon tax off your gas, heat and food. But we will also axe the tax on Canadian steel, aluminum, natural gas, food production, concrete and all other industries. We will be strong, self-reliant and sovereign, standing on our own feet and standing up to the Americans.”

Only Conservatives will restore Canada’s promise: that anyone from anywhere can do anything; that hard work gets you a great life in a beautiful house on a safe street, protected by solid borders and brave troops under a proud flag.

Pierre Poilievre will axe the entire carbon tax to put Canada First and take back control of our economy from the Americans.
