Poilievre Will Lock Up the Worst Criminals for Life
Poilievre will put human traffickers, gun smugglers and fentanyl kingpins behind bars for life, and put the safety of Canadians first – for a change.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nanaimo, BC – Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced today that as Prime Minister, he will put the safety of Canadians first—for a change—by ensuring the very worst criminals never walk free again.
Specifically, Poilievre said he will impose life sentences for anyone who is convicted of:
- 5 or more counts of human trafficking.
- Importing or exporting ten or more illegal firearms.
- Fentanyl trafficking.
“For too long, radical Liberals have let crime spiral out of control. They have weakened our criminal laws with ‘catch and release’ policies and made our streets and communities more dangerous. The choice for Canadians is clear: A fourth Liberal term while dangerous predators and vile monsters continue to walk free, or a strong, new Conservative government that will put Canada First – for a change – by locking up those who commit the very worst crimes for life,” Poilievre said.
The Lost Liberal Decade has made our communities more dangerous. Under the Liberals, violent crime has soared by 50%, which means more Canadians are now victims of violent assaults, robberies, and shootings. Human trafficking has skyrocketed by 84%, as criminals exploit vulnerable individuals for profit, and fentanyl has killed more than 50,000 Canadians– more than died fighting for Canada in the Second World War. Meanwhile, a shocking 85% of guns seized in Toronto are traced back to the U.S., fueling a rise in gun violence across the country.
It didn’t used to be this way. This crime wave is the direct result of the Liberals’ soft-on-crime agenda. Bill C-5 ended mandatory jail time for serious gun and drug crimes, letting criminals off the hook. Bill C-75 weakened bail, putting repeat offenders back on the streets faster. And Liberals slashed penalties for human traffickers, making it harder to lock them up.
Mark Carney is weak and out of touch. As Justin Trudeau’s advisor, he remained silent as Liberals gutted the criminal code and made Canada a criminal playground. People like him never feel the consequences of their radical policies, which make them feel good but make everyone else feel unsafe. A fourth Liberal term under a weak and out-of-touch leader like Mark Carney would mean more of the same pro-criminal Liberal policies, more crime, and more innocent victims.
“Liberals made Canada weaker—on crime, on the economy, and on the world stage. Their failure has made us more vulnerable to threats from violent criminals at home and economic pressure from abroad. A country that can’t protect its own citizens is a country that can’t stand up for itself, at home or abroad,” Poilievre said.
Canadians can’t afford a fourth term of Liberal failure. It’s time for a strong, new Conservative government that will stop the crime, restore safe streets, and put Canada First – for a change.
