Poilievre to Crack Down on Liberal Violent Crime Wave with ‘Three-Strikes-And-You’re-Out’ Law
Poilievre will pass a “Three-Strikes-And-You’re-Out” law to keep dangerous criminals behind bars longer and bring home safe streets.

Sault Ste. Marie, ON — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced today that he will end the Liberal wave of violent crime by passing a Three-Strikes-and-You’re-Out Law. This law will stop criminals convicted of three serious offences from getting bail, probation, parole or house arrest, and keep violent criminals behind bars longer to keep them away from their victims and off our streets.
Poilievre will make sure that three-time serious criminals get a minimum prison term of 10 years and up to a life sentence. They will also be designated as Dangerous Offenders, meaning they cannot be released until they prove they are no longer a danger. The only way for these repeat serious criminals to obtain their freedom will be through spotless behaviour and clean drug tests during a lengthy minimum prison sentence, with earned release dependent on improving themselves and their life opportunities, such as by learning a trade or upgrading their education.
“We will lock up the worst violent offenders longer and make sure they are not released as long as they pose a danger to our society,” said Poilievre. “Hug-a-thug, catch-and-release policies have destroyed our once-safe towns and cities. Only Conservatives will take violent crime seriously and do what it takes to get it under control.”
As a result of the Lost Liberal Decade, violent crime has skyrocketed by 50 percent, while gun crime is up 116 percent. Gang homicides have soared by 78 percent, and extortion and auto theft are up 357 percent and 46 percent, respectively. We can’t afford a fourth Liberal term under a weak leader like Mark Carney, who won’t take the bold action necessary to stop the crime and chaos in our streets.
This crime wave was no accident. The Liberals introduced radical catch-and-release policies like Bill C-5, which allows some of the worst offenders to serve their sentences at home, and Bill C-75, which lets rampant criminals go free within hours of their arrest.
The result has been a disaster for Canadian communities.
- In Saskatchewan in 2022, Myles Sanderson went on a spree, killing 11 people and injuring 17 more. Sanderson was out on “statutory release” after 59 prior convictions for assault, robbery, mischief and uttering threats. FIFTY. NINE. CONVICTIONS. If he had been kept in jail where he belonged, those 11 precious Canadians would still be alive.
- Last year, investigators in Peel Region made 18 arrests in connection with a string of home invasions, armed robberies and carjackings, with over $1.2 million worth of stolen vehicles recovered. Of the 18, half were out on bail.
- In Vancouver, police had to arrest the same 40 offenders 6,000 times. And in 2022, 256 people were charged with homicide while out on release.
“Not only will Common Sense Conservatives repeal the Liberal catch-and-release laws, we will carry out the biggest crackdown on crime in Canadian history,” said Pierre Poilievre.
Mark Carney will keep Liberal soft-on-crime laws. As Justin Trudeau’s advisor, he supported the Liberal Party as they let crime run rampant in our streets. As Liberal leader, his first move was to appoint David Lametti–-the same minister who was responsible for Trudeau’s soft-on-crime laws–-as his senior advisor. And his hand-picked candidate in Victoria wants to “defund” and “disarm” the police.
Only a new Conservative government will stop the crime, lock up dangerous criminals, and give repeat violent offenders jail, not bail. Only Conservatives will bring home safe streets for law-abiding Canadians–For a Change. Only Conservatives will put Canada First–For a Change.
