News Release Mark Carney’s Liberals announce plan to train skilled workers for strong careers St-Eustache, QC – In the face of President Trump’s tariffs, we need to build Canada strong. That starts by supporting our workers and helping them prepare for the careers of the future. Today, Mark Carney highlighted his plan to build Canada strong through this crisis, and announced a significant new benefit to help workers access and afford new skills training in the middle of their careers.
“To build the fastest growing economy in the G7, we need to have a skilled workforce. That means training and education for all, and for all time,” said Mark Carney, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. “Canadians work hard, and if you are committed to learning a new skill to grow in your career, my new Liberal government will be there to support you. Together, we will build the most skilled workforce in the world—a workforce that is Canada strong.”
A Mark Carney led government will provide a new upskilling and training benefit for workers in the middle of their careers who need to access new skills training for their career stability and success. This new benefit will :
provide up to $15,000 for workers in priority sectors, including manufacturing, health care, construction, A.I. and technology. In the face of the economic uncertainty and volatility many Canadian businesses are facing, we will collaborate with employers to support retention and upskilling within their companies; and,
ensure that Canadian workers impacted by tariffs have the necessary tools to pursue good paying jobs and advance their careers in priority sectors. We will design these supports in partnership with labour, employers, and industry.
A Mark Carney-led government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create new jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7. Liberals will build Canada strong.
