Ottawa, ON – Melissa Lantsman, Common Sense Conservative Deputy Leader, released the following statement on Carbon Tax Carney officially launching his leadership campaign.
“After nine years of the NDP-Liberal government impoverishing Canadians Carbon Tax Mark Carney proved he’s just like Justin and wants to keep the tax on. When asked if he would axe the tax, the answer was clear: he wouldn’t commit to getting rid of it, and if he were to ever change his mind, he would just replace it with another carbon tax by another name. Since at least 2020, Carbon Tax Carney has been advising and cheering on Trudeau, supporting policies that have ruined the lives of millions of Canadians, including his plan to quadruple the carbon tax to 61 cents per litre by 2030.
“Carney has been one of the world’s most consistent carbon tax advocates, even going as far as explicitly endorsing it in his book, saying: ‘Effective public policies include carbon prices such as Canada’s legislated path to $170/tonne in 2030…’ and further suggesting that this punishing tax was a model for the world.
“And make no mistake, as much as he tries to distance himself from the rest of Justin Trudeau’s economic vandalism, Carbon Tax Carney is the ultimate Liberal insider. Last September, he was appointed as the chair of Justin Trudeau’s so-called ‘Leader’s Task Force on Economic Growth,’ and in the time since then, Carney and Trudeau crafted a new budget plan with a skyrocketing $62 billion inflationary deficit.
“The Globe and Mail reported in 2020 that ‘the Prime Minister came to rely on Mark Carney, former governor of the Bank of England and Bank of Canada, for informal policy advice, and now on plans to revive the economy, sources said.’ Justin Trudeau’s disastrous economic record is Carbon Tax Carney’s record.
“Canadians still have unanswered questions about Carbon Tax Carney’s massive conflicts of interest and connections to multinational corporate interests. Brookfield Asset Management, an investment firm Carbon Tax Carney chaired and received an undisclosed amount of money from, has been lobbying the very government he wants to lead for $10 billion. Meanwhile, they moved their headquarters to New York City as part of the half-trillion dollars of Canadian investment that has fled the NDP-Liberals’ economic vandalism to the US.
“Carbon Tax Carney claims to be ‘an outsider’ when nothing could be further from the truth. Carney and the other Liberals who unleashed economic carnage think they can trick Canadians by installing him as Leader, but everyone knows he’s just like Justin. Canadians don’t need another NDP-Liberal Prime Minister.
“We need an election so that Canadians can take back control of their lives and their country, and elect Common Sense Conservatives who will restore the promise of Canada and axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime.”
